NinjaTrader Desktop does not run natively on macOS. To use the Windows desktop app and its add-ons, run Windows in Parallels or on a remote Windows PC or VPS. NinjaTrader Web works in a Mac browser, but it is a separate platform. If you want to copy Tradovate or Rithmic accounts directly from a Mac, [Copilink Standalone runs natively on Intel and Apple-silicon Macs](https://copilink.com/standalone/mac). NinjaTrader's installation guide lists the supported Windows desktop requirements and Mac alternatives.

If you keep NinjaTrader Desktop in Windows, review the [add-ons you actually need](https://copilink.com/articles/best-ninjatrader-addons-prop-firm-traders-2026) and the [hardware factors to test](https://copilink.com/articles/cpu-ram-iops-requirements-ninjatrader-10-accounts) before choosing a virtual machine or VPS.

## Option 1: Parallels Desktop (Windows on Mac)

Parallels Desktop is the leading virtualization software for Mac and supports Windows 11 ARM on Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4). You can run a full Windows environment alongside macOS, install NinjaTrader inside that Windows environment, and trade from your Mac.

**Setup:**

1. Check the current Parallels and Windows requirements and pricing for your Mac
2. Download and install Windows 11 ARM through Parallels (it handles the download)
3. Install NinjaTrader 8 inside the Windows virtual machine
4. Connect your broker accounts and install Copilink as normal

**Performance on M3/M4:** Your result depends on available memory, the Windows virtual machine, charts, feeds and account count. Test your actual workload in simulation before relying on it for funded accounts. This article does not include an M3/M4 multi-account benchmark.

**The core limitation for prop trading:** Parallels runs on your Mac. Your Mac sleeps when you close the lid. Your Mac loses connectivity when your home internet goes down. For managing multiple funded accounts that need continuous monitoring, you're tied to your home machine being on and connected.

## Option 2: Windows VPS (Remote Access from Mac)

A remote Windows PC or VPS is another way to run NinjaTrader Desktop while using your Mac as the access device. Compare providers on broker connectivity, uptime terms, support and the location you need; do not infer execution speed from the datacenter city alone.

**Setup:**

1. Provision a Windows VPS at a provider with Chicago datacenter options (QuantVPS, Vultr, ForexVPS)
2. Download Microsoft Remote Desktop from the Mac App Store (free)
3. Connect to the VPS using the RDP credentials provided by your VPS provider
4. Inside the RDP session, install NinjaTrader 8 and set it up as you would on any Windows machine
5. Install [Copilink](https://copilink.com/trade-copier) and configure your leader/follower accounts

A VPS can keep the Windows app running while your Mac is asleep or disconnected, but copying still depends on the VPS, the broker connection and the software session. When you reconnect, check positions and working orders at each broker before sending another leader trade.

## Parallels or a VPS: how to choose

The comparison comes down to what you need from your trading infrastructure:

| Factor | Parallels on Mac | Windows VPS |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Uptime | Dependent on Mac being on and connected | Depends on the provider and your service plan |
| Latency to CME | Home internet + ISP routing (variable) | Depends on provider routing, broker and market conditions; measure the complete path |
| Performance at 10+ accounts | Constrained by virtualization overhead | Depends on the VPS resources and concurrent workload |
| Home internet dependency | Yes — outage = no trading | No — VPS continues trading if home internet is down |
| Cost | Parallels, Windows and Mac costs vary by plan | VPS and Windows costs vary by provider and resources |

Neither route is automatically better for every trader. Parallels keeps the Windows session on your Mac; a VPS moves that session to another machine. Test your actual account count and recovery steps in simulation. If you do not need NinjaTrader Desktop and your accounts use Tradovate or Rithmic, compare both with [Copilink's native Mac copier](https://copilink.com/standalone/mac).

If you choose the Windows desktop route, [Copilink for NinjaTrader 8](https://copilink.com/trade-copier) runs inside the same NT8 session as your accounts. Verify each follower result at the broker.
