# Update Copilink

> Copilink checks for updates by itself and can download them in the background. Installing needs a restart, and Copilink won't restart while a profile is enabled.

## What it does

How Copilink checks for and downloads updates, why it won't restart while a profile is enabled, and how to install an update safely when you have open trades.

## How updates arrive

- Copilink checks at startup and about every four hours. You can also press Check for updates under Copilink updates in Settings.
- With Download updates automatically in the background on, a new version downloads by itself. Check for updates downloads it either way.
- Updates are verified before they're installed. Until you restart, you keep running the current version.
- UPDATE in the top bar and a banner show progress, then Restart to install.
- Your version is shown under Copilink updates in Settings and in Copilink · About.

In-app updates work only for Copilink installed from an official installer. If the update area says updates are unavailable in this build, download and install the latest version from your dashboard.

## Install an update

1. **Stop trading the leader.** Choose a quiet moment.
2. **Disable the profile.** Wait until the status shows No active profile. Restart to install stays blocked while a profile is enabled, even if it's Starting or shows Issue.
3. **Deal with open trades.** Disabling cancels the orders Copilink copied, but it doesn't close positions. Close or manage them at your broker.
4. **Restart to install.** Copilink closes, installs the update, and opens again.
5. **Check before trading.** Confirm the version, your connections, and your broker positions, then enable the profile.

## Check it worked

- After the restart, Settings shows the new version.

## If something goes wrong

- Restart to install is disabled: disable the active profile and wait for No active profile.
- A check or download fails: you keep the current version. Check your internet connection and free disk space, then try again later.
- An install fails: note the version and message, and contact support.
