Copilink vs. TradeSyncer: Local vs. Cloud Execution for NinjaTrader Prop Traders

TradeSyncer is the most popular cloud-based trade copier. Copilink is local. For prop firm traders, this architectural difference has real consequences for latency, reliability, and risk enforcement.

Copilink vs. TradeSyncer: Local vs. Cloud Execution for NinjaTrader Prop Traders

TradeSyncer has built a significant user base with its cloud-based approach and competitive subscription pricing ($49/month). The appeal is obvious: no software installation on a trading machine, accessible from any device, easy onboarding. For traders who aren't running NinjaTrader as their primary platform, or who trade across multiple machines that don't share a local environment, cloud copying has a genuine use case.

For NinjaTrader-native prop firm traders running multiple funded accounts, the architecture comparison is more nuanced than the pricing comparison.

Architecture: How Each Works

TradeSyncer (Cloud): Your NinjaTrader instance sends order signals to TradeSyncer's cloud servers. The cloud server processes the signal and routes replication instructions back to your follower accounts. Every order makes a round trip: local machine → cloud → local machine. Latency: typically 20-50ms under normal conditions, higher during peak usage or server-side events.

Copilink (Local): Runs as a NinjaTrader 8 add-on. Leader order detection and follower order generation happen inside the same NinjaTrader process. Orders go directly from NinjaTrader to broker. No external relay. Latency: ~1.6ms leader-to-follower.

Full Feature Comparison

Feature Copilink TradeSyncer
Execution type Local NinjaTrader add-on Cloud-based webhook relay
Avg. replication latency ~1.6ms ~20–50ms (network-dependent)
Reliability dependency VPS/local machine only Your internet + TradeSyncer servers + return path
Daily loss limit lockout Yes — per account, local enforcement Cloud-side lockouts (latency in enforcement path)
Trailing drawdown monitoring Yes — real-time local per account Limited — cloud-side monitoring
Consistency rule tracking Yes — per account with dynamic sizing No native consistency rule feature
Tradovate multi-account Optimized for unlimited connections Compatible via cloud relay
Works during internet outage Yes — if on VPS (no home internet needed) No — requires active internet connection
Pricing Professional subscription — copilink.com ~$49/month

The Reliability Question

TradeSyncer's cloud architecture introduces three external dependencies that a local copier doesn't have: your internet connection to TradeSyncer's servers, TradeSyncer's own server uptime, and the return path from their servers back to your broker connections. Any of these three can fail during a trading session.

In practice, TradeSyncer is generally reliable — they run on AWS infrastructure with reasonable uptime. But "generally reliable" isn't the same as "will be up during the specific FOMC session when you have positions across eight funded accounts." The risk isn't the frequency of outages; it's the consequence when one happens at the wrong moment.

A local Copilink setup on a Chicago VPS has one dependency: the VPS. When that stays up — which Chicago-based trading VPS providers maintain at 99.9%+ — the copier runs. No external server, no cloud routing, no round-trip internet dependency.

When TradeSyncer Is the Right Choice

TradeSyncer genuinely makes sense when:

  • You're copying signals across accounts on completely separate machines that don't share a NinjaTrader environment
  • Your trading strategy is on longer timeframes where 20-50ms replication latency has zero practical impact
  • You want the simplest possible setup with minimal local software to manage
  • Cost is the primary constraint and the feature limitations are acceptable

For NinjaTrader-native multi-account prop trading with funded accounts under active rule constraints, the latency, reliability, and risk enforcement differences favor local execution. The $49/month price difference between TradeSyncer and Copilink is not meaningful against the cost of a single blown funded account from a cloud outage or slippage event.
