Prerequisites
- The account is connected and appears in Risk management.
- Live P&L is enabled when an actionable P&L rule is required.
- You know the account type, starting balance, official prop-firm rules, and intended trading-day schedule.
Rules by account type
| Rule | Evaluation | Funded | Live | Behavior |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Daily loss limit | Available | Available | Available | Requests close-out when total account P&L reaches the configured negative amount. |
| Daily profit goal | Available | Available | Available | Requests close-out when total account P&L reaches the configured positive amount. |
| Evaluation goal plus buffer | Available | Not available | Not available | Requests close-out at initial balance plus goal plus buffer. |
| Evaluation consistency | Available | Not available | Not available | Requests close-out when the configured daily consistency cap is reached. |
| Intraday / trailing drawdown | Monitoring only | Monitoring only | Not shown as enforced | Shows a tracked floor and remaining room; it does not request close-out. |
| Funded consistency | Not available | Monitoring only | Not available | Shows best-day share using current and historical inputs; it does not request close-out. |
Configure one account
Open the account inspector
Open Risk management, select the account, and open its inspector.
Choose the account type
Select Evaluation, Funded, or Live. Rules hidden after a type change are not active for the new type.
Enable intended rules
Turn account risk on, enable only the rules you intend, and enter valid values. Verify evaluation starting balance, goal, buffer, and consistency inputs where used.
Review enforcement labels
Distinguish actionable close-out rules from monitoring-only drawdown and funded consistency figures.
Save and confirm
Save the account settings and return to the list.
Success: The account shows Protected when actionable rules have current, account-wide P&L and usable stored state.
If not: If Save fails or Needs attention remains, stop adding exposure and resolve the exact reason before relying on the rule.
P&L and market-data requirements
Daily and evaluation rules use total account P&L: broker realized P&L plus current unrealized input when usable. Fees are reflected only to the extent the broker's values include them.
- Active Live P&L uses fresh quotes for required instruments.
- Reduced protection uses a recent account-wide broker snapshot when a fresh quote is absent.
- A stale, instrument-only, or partial value is not treated as current account-wide P&L.
- Needs attention blocks risk-increasing copied orders to an affected protected follower. Existing exposure is not guaranteed to close.
Limit hit, Locked, and close-out behavior
| Visible status | What Copilink is doing | Effect | What you should do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Protected | Evaluating enabled actionable rules from current P&L and saved state. | New exposure is allowed subject to other checks. | Monitor and compare critical values with the broker. |
| Needs attention | Reporting missing, stale, partial, invalid, multi-instrument, disconnected, or storage state. | Risk-increasing copies to affected protected followers are blocked; existing exposure remains. | Open the inspector and resolve the exact cause. |
| Limit hit | Requesting close-out without a persistent lock. | A follower is disengaged. A leader triggers coordinated close-out for its enabled profile accounts. | Verify all targets are flat and do not place another leader order while the condition remains. |
| Locked | Persisting a daily loss or profit lock and blocking new exposure until Unlock. | The account remains blocked; a follower remains disengaged. | Verify flatness, investigate, then unlock and re-enable separately only when intended. |
| Risk off | Not enforcing Copilink P&L limits for this account. | Copying can continue without Copilink P&L enforcement. | Enable and complete appropriate rules if protection is intended. |
Leader and follower behavior after a limit
- Follower limit: the follower is switched off before its close-out request. Leader and sibling followers continue unless another condition affects them. Re-enable the follower manually after review.
- Leader limit: Copilink pauses the active profile and requests account-wide close-out for the leader and enabled followers. A reported successful operation can return the profile to Active, so do not place another leader order while the leader remains Limit hit or Locked.
- Failed close-out: Copilink keeps the unsafe operation stopped, records a critical issue, and can attempt another protective close-out after a later safety update and cooldown. Normal copied submits and modifications are not retried.
Trading day and reset behavior
The default risk day uses America/Chicago, a 4:00 PM session close, a 5:00 PM next-session start, and a 4:00–5:00 PM maintenance gap. The evening session belongs to the next trading day, and named-time-zone daylight-saving rules apply.
Daily loss, daily profit, and evaluation daily calculations reset at the next active session start. A complete funded-account override can replace the global schedule. A partial override is not mixed with global values and is flagged for attention.
Copilink rules and broker rules
Copilink rules require the application to be open, signed in, connected, and receiving suitable data. Tradovate broker limits, prop-firm liquidation rules, exchange controls, and account restrictions operate separately and can use different P&L, fees, reset times, rounding, and close-out behavior.
What success looks like
- The correct account type and only intended rules are enabled.
- The account shows Protected with current account-wide P&L.
- A simulation threshold produces the intended follower or leader action.
- The broker confirms every requested account is flat after the test.
Troubleshooting
- Needs attention: open the inspector and resolve invalid values, disconnect, stale or partial P&L, multiple instruments, or storage failure.
- Settings will not save: keep the profile off, check local data access and free space, preserve a backup, and contact support.
- Limit hit persists: compare broker P&L and wait for the next configured trading day or correct only a genuinely wrong threshold.
- Locked: verify flatness and the triggering rule, then use Unlock only when new exposure should be allowed; re-enable a follower separately.
